Job Description

ettain group has 2 immediate openings for Online Content Producers (Science curriculum grades 5-8). These positions will be 1-year long contracts with possible conversion to direct employee. Location: GW Campus in Ashburn, VA. The Content Producer will write and oversee the development of grades 5-8 inquiry-based science curriculum. The Content Producer must have excellent curriculum writing skills including the development of expository science text and inquiry-based lab experiments to be able to determine and develop appropriate content.  A focus will be on the development of student curriculum in the subjects of Space, Climate and/or Forces & Motion. In addition, he/she must have a strong knowledge of middle school science curriculum, National Science Education Standards, NAEP Framework and AAAS benchmarks.

 

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Write science content including labs, introduction articles and expository text           

o        Write engaging and age appropriate introduction articles

o        Create inquiry-based science labs for each mission

o        Develop journal questions for each mission, digital lab and video

o        Write a culminating field assignment for each mission     

·         Facilitate content development process

o        Co-develop curriculum outline and product plan with Curriculum Team

o        Collaborate on topic research and strategic planning

o        Participate in the researcher selection process and ongoing researcher communication and follow-up

·         Coordinate with content vendors to identify and implement timelines, benchmarks and review process for curriculum development

o        Write and edit content

·         Oversee quality assurance & editorial process

o        Review and validate science curriculum, videos and digital labs for accuracy

o        Incorporate feedback from internal and external reviewers

o        Provide detail edits and comments to Curriculum and content vendor teams    

·         Represent the organization at partner and customer meetings

o        Present the organization and philosophy to partners at NGS, NOAA, NASA and other educational organizations

o        Report on interaction with organization partners    

·         Fulfill other duties as provided by immediate supervisor and Executive staff.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

·         Bachelor’s degree in Sciences or Education required. Advanced degree such as a masters in a scientific field, especially in the areas of Physical and Earth Sciences, preferred.

·         3+ years teaching science, preferably for grades 5-8 earth or physical sciences

·         3+ years curriculum development experience, including experience in the development and implementation multimedia, standards-based curriculum for science teachers

·         3+ years management or project management experience

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

·         Strong knowledge of Grades K-8 science content (life, Earth, physical) with some middle school teaching experience, including knowledge of current trends and issues in the grades 5-8 core science education market;

·         Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat; 

·         Excellent written and oral communication skills; Excellent research, fact-checking, editing, and proofreading skills
